WE ARE WHAT WE ARE also stars Michael Parks (DJANGO UNCHAINED), Kelly McGillis (STAKELAND), Nick Damici (STAKELAND), Wyatt Russell (THIS IS 40) and newcomer Jack Gore. WE ARE WHAT WE ARE was written by Mickle and Damici.  The two previously collaborated on the screenplays for Mickle’s first two features, MULBERRY STREET and STAKELAND (winner of the “Midnight Madness” Audience Award at the 2010 Toronto International Film Festival).

WE ARE WHAT WE ARE was produced by Rodrigo Bellott, Andrew D. Corkin, Linda Moran, Nicholas Shumaker and Jack Turner.

Jim Mickle’s suspenseful horror thriller We Are What We Are comes full circle.  Acquired by eOne for U.S. theatrical rights off of the film’s critically acclaimed world premiere at this year’s Sundance Film Festival, We Are What  We Are finds a home at the Cannes Film Festival’s Directors’ Fortnight!

A seemingly wholesome and benevolent family, the Parkers have always kept to themselves, and for good reason. Behind closed doors, patriarch Frank (Bill Sage, “Boardwalk Empire”) rules his family with a rigorous ferver, determined to keep his ancestral customs intact at any cost.  As a torrential rainstorm moves into the area, tragedy strikes and his daughters Iris (Ambyr Childers, THE MASTER) and Rose (Julia Garner, MARTHA MARCY MAY MARLENE, SIN CITY: A DAME TO KILL FOR) are forced to assume responsibilities that extend beyond those of a typical family.  As the unrelenting downpour continues to flood their small town, the local authorities begin to uncover clues that bring them closer to the secret that the Parkers have held closely for so many years.

MEET THE CAST

JULIA GARNER

Julia plays Rose, the middle child and youngest daughter of the Parkers. She’s old enough to understand right from wrong, but has trouble with following her gut. Julia is perhaps best known for her first role in the critically acclaimed MARTHA MARCY MAY MARLENE. She has also appeared in Stephen Chbosky’s THE PERKS OF BEING A WALLFLOWER, Rebecca Thomas’s ELECTRICK CHILDREN, David Chase’s NOT FADE AWAY, and Ed Gass-Donnelly’s THE LAST EXORCISM PART II. Julia will also be appearing next year in SIN CITY: A DAME TO KILL FOR, directed by Robert Rodriguez, and YOU CAN’T WIN, directed by Robinson Devor.

AMBYR CHILDERS

Ambyr plays Iris, the eldest Parker child.  After the death of her mother, Iris learns very quickly what being the matriarch in the Parker household truly means. Currently starring as ‘Ashley Rucker’ opposite Liev Schreiber on Showtime’s new hit “Ray Donovan,” Ambyr has also appeared in such films as Paul Thomas Anderson’s THE MASTER and Ruben Fleischer’s GANGSTER SQUAD.  Ambyr got her break as a long-term cast member of “All My Children”.

BILL SAGE

Bill plays Frank Parker, a brooding widowed father ruling his family with a rigorous ferver, determined to keep his ancestral customs intact at any cost.  Bill got his break in Hal Hartley’s SIMPLE MEN which was nominated for a Palme d’Or at the 1992 Cannes Film Festival.  Known for his portrayals of complex men with disturbing pasts, some of Bill’s film credits include Lee Daniels’ PRECIOUS, Greg Araki’s MYSTERIOUS SKIN, Mary Harron’s AMERICAN PSYCHO and I SHOT ANDY WARHOL, and Michael Mann’s THE INSIDER.  Bill also can be seen in Showtime’s critically acclaimed “Nurse Jackie” alongside Edie Falco and HBO’s “Boardwalk Empire alongside Steve Buscemi.

KELLY MCGILLIS

Kelly plays Marge the nurturing yet inquisitive neighbor to the Parkers.  Marge tries to comfort the Parkers after the loss of Frank’s wife.  Kelly McGillis broke through to stardom when she appeared opposite Harrison Ford in Peter Weir’s acclaimed WITNESS, which earned her a Golden Globe Nomination. That led to a string of notable feature film credits that include TOP GUN with Tom Cruise, MADE IN HEAVEN, AT FIRST SIGHT, THE BABE with John Goodman, THE ACCUSED with Jodie Foster, and Rob Reiner’s NORTH.A classically trained actress, Kelly appeared in numerous acclaimed productions including playing Ibsen’s Hedda Gabler on Broadway in 1994 and performing as Mrs. Robinson in the national touring company of the stage version of The Graduate. Recently, Kelly appeared in a recurring role on Showtime’s acclaimed The L Word, Ti West’s THE INNKEEPERS and Jim Mickle’s STAKE LAND

WYATT RUSSELL

Wyatt plays Deputy Anders, a young and naive police officer smitten with one of the Parker daughters yet may be in over his head as his first investigation takes him to new depths.  Wyatt pursued a hockey career before getting into acting, playing professionally for three years in Germany and Holland.  After an injury, Wyatt pursued acting, he can be seen in Jon Favreau’s COWBOYS & ALIENS, the Netflix revival of “Arrested Development” and Judd Apatow’s THIS IS 40.  Wyatt is also a partner in Hail Mary Productions with his brother Oliver Hudson and sister Kate Hudson.

 NICK DAMICI

Nick plays Sheriff Meeks, a local veteran sheriff who the skeptic, refusing to believe there are connections in the crimes being committed in town. Nick and Jim Mickle have worked together as a writing team on WE ARE WHAT WE ARE, STAKE LAND, and their first film together, MULBERRY STREET.  Nick boasts numerous television credits which includes guest-starring roles on the series “CSI: Miami,” “CSI: NY,” “Law & Order,” and “Life on Mars,” as well as a recurring role on “The Black Donnellys.”  His feature film credits include Oliver Stone’s WORLD TRADE CENTER, Jane Campion’s IN THE CUT, MY SEXIEST YEAR with Harvey Keitel as well as Fred Gallo’s THE DON ON 42ND STREET and David Koepp’s PREMIUM RUSH with Joseph Gordon-Levitt.

MICHAEL PARKS

Michael plays Doc Barrow, a local doctor with questions that need answering.  Doc Barrow’s inquisitive nature may end up catching up with his past.  Michael, an iconic actor in his own right, got his big break on the 1969 show “Then Came Bronson”, and went on to portraying characters in many other television shows such as “Twin Peaks” before crossing over to the silver screen.  Quentin Tarantino and Robert Rodriguez have used his character Earl McGraw in numerous features such as FROM DUSK TILL DAWN, KILL BILL VOL. 1, KILL BILL VOL. 2, DEATH PROOF and PLANET TERROR.  He can also be seen in Andrew Dominik’s THE ASSASSINATION OF JESSE JAMES BY THE COWARD ROBERT FORD, Kevin Smith’s RED STATE, Ben Affleck’s ARGO and teamed up again with Quentin Tarantino in DJANGO UNCHAINED.

JACK GORE

Jack plays Rory Parker, the youngest of the Parker siblings.  Too young to understand the nature of what’s going on, Rory relies on his sisters to take care of him.  WE ARE WHAT WE ARE is Jack’s first role.  He can soon be seen in Amy Berg’s EVERY SECRET THING alongside Elizabeth Banks, Dakota Fanning and Diane Lane.  He will also be seen in the new NBC sitcom “The Michael J Fox Show” playing Fox’s son.
