Star Trek At 50 At The Intrepid
THE STAR TREK UNIVERSE
I visited the Intrepid in New York but not to see the original space shuttle, Enterprise but a new exhibit honoring Star Trek with props and costumes from all generations. You start off as a Starfleet Cadet and through series of interactive consoles take quizzes that show your skills for either engineering, sciences, medical and command. Mixed in are props and costumes from Star Trek’s captains, aliens and guest stars. The original series didn’t have much but still an impressive collection. At the end of your cadet journey you end up on the bridge of the Galaxy class Enterprise D where on a console, (I took it at Troi’s bridge station) you take the Kobyashi Maru test (but no cheating) . You do get the chance to sit at various stations with pictures welcome throughout the exhibit. Don’t we all want a picture in the captain’s chair. The diversity of the props and costumes could have been better but it was a fun time and always nice to be on any Enterprise Bridge.
