The Other

After years of struggling with infertility, Daniel and Robin become foster parents to 8 year old Kathelia, a mute orphan with the hope of becoming a permanent family. Their challenges begin immediately. Despite her young age, Kathelia shows fierce independence and prefers to keep her new parents at a distance. Robin and Daniel attribute this behavior to Kathelia’s turbulent
past. Soon after Kathelia’s arrival, a persistent black mold sprouts throughout the house, a red slime
skins over the swimming pool, and an eerie presence begins to haunt Robin. As the phenomena
escalates, so does Kathelia’s anxiety, driving her to make a desperate attempt to run away. After
a frenzied search, Daniel finds her catatonic in a drainage tunnel.
Kathelia befriends her neighbor, Fiona. Born with both Down Syndrome and keen paranormal
gifts, Fiona warns Kathelia that a monster from her past has followed her to her new home. Not
long after this warning, Kathelia has an accident. During her recovery, doctors discover an odd
scar in Kathelia’s brain, the vestiges of a twin sibling.

Robin soon realizes she’s pregnant, a near-miraculous development. As her pregnancy
progresses, her physical health declines and her hostility toward Kathelia grows. Determined to hold onto her last chance at ‘real’ motherhood, Robin is convinced that Kathelia is the one remaining obstacle to this dream. Kathelia, who has seen this behavior and its horrific results twice in her past, reacts to Robin’s pregnancy transformation with alarm.

The revelations of Kathelia’s scar and Robin’s pregnancy set off spiraling events of supernatural violence. Robin’s pregnancy is anything but natural, but she fiercely guards the thing growing
inside her with one sole focus – eliminating its main threat, Kathelia. The final act comes to a head with a cat and mouse chase. Kathelia and Robin – now disfigured by her paranormal pregnancy – hunt each other through the house. Racing against the clock, Kathelia, Daniel, and clairvoyant Fiona struggle to defeat the vengeful entity before its imminent birth, using the only unspeakable option they have: release the tiny corpse from Kathelia’s brain.
