A Book That Could Change Everything

Sophie’s Skelton’s Brianna and Richard Rankin’s Roger travel back in time to Fraser’s Ridge with three books in tow. One in particular is a history book written by Frank Randall. The implications could be huge as it could change the outcome of the war and history.

Sophie Skelton makes a good point. “A through line for these characters has always been, you know, is knowledge of the future protection or poison? And I think for Brianna, this is such a tricky one. Do you tell Jamie that he’s probably gonna die, or do you try and help with the tools to prevent that? And so I think Brianna finds quite a good balance this season. I won’t say how, but she does bring some future knowledge back to try and protect Jamie. But I do also think that, you know, they kind of know that you can’t really change history. So it is, it’s a blessing and a curse to have that information. And I think that’s definitely something that she grapples with this season.

For Richard’s Rankin’s Roger it makes things cloudy on the way to go. “Which is strange in itself because I always felt, well, That seems really reckless that Brianna and Roger, particularly both being historians and quite well educated, would bring back something quite so potentially dangerous. But they did anyway because they have been known to make, you know, silly mistakes in the past, so maybe it’s not that surprising. Um, but, uh, yeah, but there’s also, there’s also this thing that kind of runs through the show that you can’t change history. That seems to be the conclusion that we come to, that inevitably it plays out, which actually we do contradict that once or twice. There’s part of me that thinks there’s a bit of a hangover here and Brianna did know what happens, that Jamie dies, and maybe that was changed and maybe that information has been brought back to try and prevent Jamie’s death, which makes sense. Otherwise, I’m not quite sure what it is we’re trying to do with that book.
